ARBS 2016: BIM to Prefabrication, Commissioning Management, Innovation in FM

April 29, 2016

ARBS is Australia’s only international trade exhibition for the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Building Services industry. This year’s ARBS event will take place in Melbourne on 17-19 May 2016.

The technical seminar series always proves very popular, where attendees can hear the latest on legislative and technology changes. A.G. Coombs will once again be contributing to the series, delivering or participating in three of the sessions.

Innovation in FM – Panel
Involving Warwick Stannus, Group Engineering Manager, A.G. Coombs Group (Day 1, Tuesday 17 May, 1.30pm)

Today’s asset owner is increasingly focused on more efficient Facilities Management (FM) – extending the life of assets and driving costs down. This has put the FM sector under increasing pressure to find new ways to add value and to improve the way operation and maintenance services are delivered. In this session, a Panel of BIM experts will discuss emerging areas of innovation in FM including Building Information Modelling (BIM) in FM, energy management, FM outsourcing in the new world, and asset lifecycle planning.

More information on the Panel session can be found on the ARBS website.

ARBS 2016 - Warwick StannusBIM to Prefabrication – Designing to get the Pre-Fab Benefits
Warwick Stannus, Group Engineering Manager, A.G. Coombs Group (Day 2, Wednesday 18 May, 1.30pm)

The substantial quality, safety, system performance and construction program benefits that the off-site manufacture of HVAC system components offers are beginning to be realised, and prefabrication is the current hot topic in building construction. However, additional, more significant HVAC system prefabrication benefits are limited because we do not design buildings and building services systems with the off-site manufacturing of systems in mind. In this session, Warwick will present the opportunities and methodologies for designing for off-site manufacturing of HVAC and other building services systems. At the end of the session participants will better understand the benefits that large-scale building services prefabrication brings to projects, and will understand how changes to traditional building design approaches could result in significant additional benefits.

More information on Warwick’s presentation can be found on the ARBS website.

ARBS 2016 - Andrew BarrHow Good Projects Go Wrong – how to reduce risk with effective commissioning processes
Andrew Barr, Project Engineer, A.G. Coombs Advisory (Day 3, Thursday 19 May, 11.30am)

Commissioning Management roles are becoming more common in Australian building construction projects; either driven by Green Star requirements, or through recognition of the value that an overarching independent ‘end-to-end‘ delivery management role can bring. The role usually provides a unique opportunity to observe common issues and themes around why projects don’t proceed to plan (cause and effect) and how we as an industry can learn from this. Andrew’s presentation will identify a number of commonly observed problems and share how these might be addressed. At the end of the session, participants will gain valuable insights into how the delivery of building services projects can be improved by better planning, processes and communication.

More information on Andrew’s presentation can be found on the ARBS website.
