Allan Coombs Training Award Winner 2018 Announced

A.G. Coombs Annual Dinner and Awards Night continues to be a special event bringing together personnel from across the A.G. Coombs Group of companies to recognise the year’s achievements including:


21 Years of Service

When Allan George Coombs presented a gold watch to his first apprentice, Jim Barr, on achieving 21 years’ service in 1968, this was just the beginning of what has become a long-standing tradition within the A.G. Coombs Group of Companies.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients; Wayne Briggs, Stuart Knipe and David Mason.

Of the 146 employees who have received watches, 48 still work within the
A.G. Coombs Group – A remarkable statistic.

50 Years of Service

Congratulations to Ray Sherry for a wonderful achievement of 50 years’ service. Ray joins an elite group of three A.G. Coombs employees with 50 years of service.

Retiring Board Member

Thank you, Paul McDonald, for your 10-year contribution to A.G. Coombs Group of companies.

2018 Allan Coombs Training Award

Named after the Company’s founder, Mr. Allan George Coombs AM, the Allan Coombs Training Award commenced in 2000. The annual award recognises the merit of application, effort and dedication shown by Apprentices and Trainees in all fields across the A.G. Coombs Group of Companies. Recipients of the award receive a financial endowment with an identical amount donated to the winner’s charity of choice.

The Allan Coombs Training Award winner for 2018 is Maurice Barber – 4th Year Mechanical Plumbing Apprentice.

This year with over 800 A.G. Coombs personnel and their partners along with industry partners in attendance, the Annual Dinner and Awards Evening also provided an opportunity to showcase work from around Australia, and highlight A.G. Coombs’ community engagement programs and activities with our foundation partner charity Challenge.
