March 2, 2017
Join the AIRAH Victorian committee on Wednesday the 15th March at Karstens, 123 Queen Street Melbourne, as A.G. Coombs Group Engineering Manager Warwick Stannus along with other eminent industry experts present on safety-in-design responsibilities of building owners, designers and installers.
Safety-in-Design can be defined as:
βthe integration of control measures early in the design process to eliminate or, if this is not reasonably practicable, minimise risks to health and safety throughout the life of the structure being designed.β
There is now clear onus throughout Australia under the Commonwealth WHS Act 2011 s22 setting out the duty of designers to ensure that plant is without risk to Health & Safety of persons:
Whilst the responsibilities from a legal perspective are clear, albeit not always well known β the practicalities around fulfilment of the obligation remain problematic for many elements of the industry.
Although the intent of the regulations are clear, the discharge of safety-in-design responsibilities can be complex.
Warwick will focus on the risk-management process and deliverables required to meet the safety-in-design regulations, as well as addressing a number of common safety-in-design issues related to maintenance access and electrical safety.
Paul Ashton, Compliance Consultant with Access Compliance Services, will present on the height safety risks that face mechanical contractors every day.
Dr Cameron Chick, of Acronem Consulting will present on the proliferation of different pipe insulation materials in buildings and the issues this causes.
