A.G. Coombs Celebrates 75 Years: 1945 – 2020

October 14, 2020

For 75 years, A.G. Coombs has been Bringing Buildings to Life, providing specialist building services to Australia’s buildings. On 14th October 2020, founder Allan George Coombs would have turned 100 years old.

Headquartered in Melbourne, A.G. Coombs was established by Allan Coombs in August 1945. The first big break came with the installation of plumbing at the 1956 Olympic Village, followed in the sixties with the air conditioning and mechanical services at the then-new Royal Children’s Hospital complex in Melbourne – at the time Australia’s largest mechanical services contract.

Allan Coombs played a leading role in the establishment of industry standards and trade-based training for the industry, and the founding of the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors Association. He was recognised for his contribution to the industry with an Order of Australia (AM) in the 1979 New Year’s Honours List.
