Royal Children's Hospital

Following construction of the Royal Children’s Hospital, during which time A.G. Coombs Projects provided complete air conditioning, mechanical services, central energy plant and specialist hospital systems, A.G. Coombs Service provided a combination of maintenance and system optimisation services, across all systems, and played an important part in establishing operational methodologies, in particular fire testing.

A comprehensive asset management plan with lifecycle management strategies helped with maintaining the hospital’s assets, and with ensuring compliance with hospital standards, government regulation and the strict Key Performance Indicators for the Public Private Partnership under which the facility operates.

Tuning the building’s systems, including reducing energy and water consumption, further improved environmental performance and optimising internal conditions for patients, staff and visitors.

A key challenge was the scale of the facility and its critical nature, which meant limited opportunity for service works. With many of the systems featuring central plant and running throughout the facility, maintenance processes were carefully planned and managed to ensure no disruptions.
