Named after the Company’s founder, Mr Allan George Coombs AM*, the Allan Coombs Training Award commenced in 2000. The annual award recognises the merit of application, effort and dedication shown by Apprentices and Trainees in all fields across the A.G. Coombs Group of Companies. Recipients of the award receive a financial endowment with an identical amount donated to the winner’s charity of choice.

Russell Telford, A.G. Coombs Group Managing Director with Ryan Leather, A.G. Coombs (QLD) 3rd Year Refrigeration Apprentice.

The Allan Coombs Training Award winner for 2017, announced at the A.G. Coombs Annual Dinner and Awards Evening on Saturday 14th October 2017 is 3rd Year Refrigeration Apprentice, Ryan Leather from A.G. Coombs (QLD). Ryan’s nominated charity of choice is the Stroke Foundation.

This year with over 840 A.G. Coombs staff and industry partners in attendance, the Annual Dinner and Awards Evening provided an opportunity along with recognising excellence with the Training Awards, to showcase work from around Australia, and highlight A.G. Coombs’ community engagement programs and activities with our foundation partner Challenge.

The evening also featured recognition of service awards and retirements.

When Allan George Coombs presented a gold watch to his first apprentice, Jim Barr, on achieving 21 years’ service in 1968, this was just the beginning of what has become a long-standing tradition within the A.G. Coombs Group of Companies.

Of the 146 employees who have received watches since then, 48 still work within the A.G. Coombs Group.

A remarkable statistic.
