A.G. Coombs have retrofitted our large integrated prefabrication facility in Keysborough and warehouse in Moorabbin with LED lighting to reduce energy consumption and the associated greenhouse emissions, and to lower operating and maintenance costs. The retrofit project involved rewiring and replacing 114 metal halide high bay lamps and T8 fluorescent tubes with leading edge LED high bay luminaires and LED tubes. The high bay LED units are around 80% more efficient than the original lamps and are rated for 50,000 operational hours. It is envisaged that the project will result in energy savings of over 65,800 KWh per year and over 74 tonnes of avoided CO2 greenhouse emissions per year.

The upgrade was carried out by The Green Guys Group and was supported by rebates under the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme. The VEET scheme is designed to make energy efficiency improvements more affordable, contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases, and encourage investment, employment and innovation in industries that supply energy efficiency goods and services. Under the scheme, accredited businesses can offer discounts and special offers on selected energy saving products and appliances installed at homes, businesses or other non-residential premises. A.G. Coombs has pioneered the application of large-scale prefabricated services methods in Australian building construction. Vertical and horizontal services modules, and plant rooms in whole or in sections, are constructed in A.G. Coombs’ large integrated prefabrication facility and transported to site for installation. All system components including mechanical, electrical, controls and fire protection elements can be installed, pre-tested and pre-commissioned, reducing site time and improving quality, program, safety and performance outcomes.
