A.G. Coombs together with Lendlease are finalists in this year’s AIRAH Award for Excellence in Innovation with their prefabrication approach to the installation of services risers for Tower Two International Towers Sydney at Barangaroo.

The AIRAH Awards are the Australian HVAC&R industry’s most prestigious accolades and will be presented on 26 November in Sydney.

The Award for Excellence in Innovation recognises significant Australian improvements in the areas of HVAC&R achieved through innovation.

The single biggest safety risk identified in the construction of many high-rise buildings is the installation of services risers. At Barangaroo, A.G. Coombs together with Lendlease have introduced a new way to install services risers on high rise towers. By prefabricating, well in excess of 4,000 hours of complicated installation per tower are transferred into a controlled factory environment and the need to work at height is almost eliminated. This innovative approach to HVAC and building services installation very significantly reduces construction risk, and improves quality and future maintainability. It is set to become an industry standard in Australia.
